Getting started#

Use the following information to learn how to authenticate, send API requests, and complete basic operations by using the Rackspace Cloud Databases API.

For more information about Cloud Databases API operations, see the API reference.

Use the examples to create and access your database instances via Rackspace Cloud Servers. The examples create a MySQL database instance. You'll learn how to use the Cloud Databases API by using the cURL and the trove client command line tools.

Note

You can also access Rackspace Cloud Databases API features from the Rackspace Cloud Control Panel.

  • Get your credentials
  • Send API requests to Cloud Databases
  • Authenticate to the Rackspace Cloud
  • Cloud Databases concepts
  • Create and use a database instance
  • Access a database instance
  • Back up a database instance
  • Manage time zone configuration

To start using the API and run the examples in this section, you need the following items:

  • Rackspace Cloud account. If you don't have one, sign up for a Rackspace Cloud account.
  • Command-line tool or browser client for communicating with the API service.
  • Environment variables configured for cURL or trove client
